Cisco  Networking  Academy

Miami Dade College provides network training in the Cisco Networking Academy® Program at both the Regional and Local Academy levels, preparing Cisco instructors and students for Cisco certification at MDC campuses throughout Miami-Dade County, Florida. Cisco Training is available as follows:

  • Cisco Network Associate Certificate (Program Code 66050): Students study to become Cisco certified network technicians and prepare for the CCNA certification.
     
  • Associate in Science Degree (Program Code 25062): Cisco network training plus college courses, including electives in A+, Network+, Security+, Wireless Networks, Microsoft MCSE Networking, Programming, Web Design and Internet Technologies.

Miami Dade College provides students with:

New Students only need a basic understanding of computers and the ability to use the Internet. Our Academy will train you to install and configure Cisco routers and switches for Local Area Networks. Upon successful completion, students receive Cisco Certificates and Letters, a MDC College Certificate, and a Cisco discount voucher for the CCNA CERTIFICATION EXAM.

CCNA classes are offered in matched pairs in each Semester called Mini-Terms. During the Fall and Spring, the Mini-Terms are 8-weeks each, and during the Summer, the Mini-Terms are 6-weeks. Cisco Semester 1 and 2 classes are matched in back-to-back Mini-Terms each Semester, as are the Cisco Semester 3 and 4 classes. When registering for a pair of classes, please select the two classes that meet on the same days and times.  Cost for each 4-credit course, including lab fees, is:

Cisco  CCNA  Courses
 

CET 1600 Cisco Network Fundamentals
This is the first course of the four-course Cisco curriculum that will lead the student toward the goal of achieving professional certification as a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Instruction includes networking, network terminology and protocols, network standards, LANs, WANs, the OSI reference model, cabling, cabling tools, routers, router programming, LAN/WAN topologies, IP addressing and network standards. Students will install, configure and operate simple-routed LAN, routed WAN and switched LAN networks. Prerequisites: CGS 1060 and CGS 1560 or a working knowledge of the Microsoft operating system and Microsoft Office applications suite. Operational understanding of the following microcomputer topics: operating systems, memory, hard disks, types of central processing units (CPUs), communications ports, printer ports, display adapters, and pointing devices. Laboratory fee. (3hr. lecture; 2hr lab)

CET 1610 Cisco Router Technology:
This is the second course of the four-course Cisco curriculum that will lead the student toward the goal of achieving professional certification as a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Instruction includes networking, network terminology and protocols, network standards, LANs, WANs, OSI models, TCP/IP Protocols, dynamic routing, routing, router configuration and Access Control Lists (ACLs). Students will successfully implement router configurations, demonstrate an understanding of routed and routing protocols. Pre/Co requisite: CET 1600. Laboratory fee. (3hr. lecture; 2hr lab)

CET 2615 Cisco Advanced Router Technology:
This is the third course of the four-course Cisco curriculum that will lead the student toward the goal of achieving professional certification as a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Instruction includes networking, network terminology and protocols, network standards, variable-length subnet masking (VLSM), Classless Interdomain Routing (CIDR), link-state routing protocols, LANs, LAN segmentation, segmentation techniques, IP, addressing, Fast Ethernet, the Spanning Tree Protocol, virtual LANs, LAN switching, VLANs, trunking, advanced LAN and LAN switched design, and a case studies. Prerequisites: CET1600, CET1610. Laboratory fee. (3hr. lecture; 2hr lab)

CET 2620 Cisco Project Based Learning
This is the fourth and final course of the Cisco curriculum that will lead the student toward the goal of achieving professional certification as a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Instruction includes networking, network terminology and protocols, network standards, Network Address Translation (NAT), Port Address Translation (PAT), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), WAN theory and design, WAN technology, PPP, Frame Relay, ISDN, network trouble shooting, and network management techniques. Students will complete a network design project and configure multiple routers using multiple WAN protocols. This course is designed for students majoring in computer networking, and people from the industry already working in the field of networking. Prerequisites: CET1600, CET1610, CET2615. Laboratory fee (3 hr. lecture 2 hr. lab)

CCNA  Certification Tests & Vouchers

The Cisco Academy provides successful students with a discount voucher for taking their CCNA certification examination. Eligible Students and Instructors should access the following URLs to select a Cisco Testing Delivery Partner (Prometric or Pearson VUE) with a testing center in your area that provides certification testing:

Academy Voucher Notes:

  • Your voucher must be used in the same region where you completed your Academy training.
  • Absolutely NO exchanges, refunds, or extensions will be granted if the wrong testing center or voucher type is selected.
  • Vouchers must be used by the expiration date.
  • Confirm the discount amount with the testing center PRIOR to taking the exam. Cisco will not reimburse Students for the voucher.
  • Cisco cannot make changes to voucher requests after they have been submitted.

To request a Discount Voucher, please follow the steps listed below:

  1. Login to your Home Page at the Academy Connection site at http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/netacad/index.html 
  2. Click on the 'Request for CCNA Voucher' link located in the 'Career Development' or 'Professional Development' section
  3. Before you request a voucher please read the information located on the 'Request a Voucher' page
  4. Choose the Country
  5. Choose the Testing Center
  6. Click 'Submit'

PLEASE NOTE: After completing the Voucher Exam, the link that allows Students and Instructors the ability to request a discount voucher may take up to 48 hours to appear. If you are not eligible to receive a discount voucher for a particular curriculum, you will not receive the 'Request a Voucher' link. After completing the request, you may review your discount voucher information in your profile.  The details are accessible by clicking on the 'My Profile' link at the top of your Home page and scrolling down to the Voucher Information. The Voucher has an expiration date so do not request a voucher until you are ready to take the Exam.
